10 Factors Why The 2009 Nfl Season Should Stay Long In The Memory

1.  Chris Johnson electrified the National Football League with his remarkable running on the way to breaking the 2,000 yard rushing barrier in a single season.  Johnson joins the likes of Simpson, Sanders, Davis, Lewis and Dickerson in this elite club with his 2,006 rushing yards in 2009.

2.  Thanks to the likes of Payton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees the National Football League is stocked with what can only be described as a classic class of skillful Quarterbacks.  Not since the late 80's/early 90's period of Marino, Elway, Young and Montana has the NFL been blessed with such quality passers.

3.  The Cowboys, thanks in large part to the slef belief of Jerry Jones, were pleased to unveil the NFL's largest new stadium.  Whilst it hurts me to say this I have to admit the place is gigantic and very impressive indeed.        

4.  NFL owners were in all probability put off from moving a franchise up to Toronto any time soon as the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets played out to a partially empty arena.  Appears like London could well be the city to get the first international expansion on this performance.

5.  A lot of female fans will long recollect the site of Devin Hestors posterior as it was exposed during a tackle against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11 of the regular season.  Needless to say it is not the first time an NFL related clothing malfunction has precipitated a stir on the air waves.  

6.  The Saints and Indianapolis Colts were able to start the season with perfect 13 and zero records.  It marked the first moment in time 2 teams were able to obtain such records in the same season in NFL history.  A dream contest in the Super Bowl in Miami florida resulted in the New Orleans Saints winning their first ever Super Bowl championship.

7.  The NFL had grounds to look beyond Detroit for the award of league laughing stocks.  The crown was instead shared between three inept teams who would in all probability have difficulty against some college teams.  I am of course talking just about the Raiders, the Cleveland Browns and the Kansas City Chiefs.

8.  09/10 shall be remembered as the season John Madden was no longer about to describe the battle.  The Raiders former coach left football behind and the NFL was a changed environment for it.  Chris Collinsworth and Al Michaels, although wonderful in their own right, will never quite fill the void.

9.  Ageist critics ended up being proved incorrect as Brett Favre led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship contest in his first season with the team.  Not bad going for a player within touching distance of his pension.

10.  09/10 proved to be the year that logic was thrown out the window as two teams attempted to compete with only one decent player on each of their teams.  I am of course chatting about Joshua Cribbs Browns and the Steven Jackson Rams who must surely miss college where they were at least afforded teammates who also wanted to contribute.
