Nfl Tickets - Post-Combine Mock Draft
Now that the NFL Combine is over, let's take a look at how the top 10 picks in the 2010 NFL Draft could unfold.
St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford, Quarterback, Oklahoma: Bradford has become the frontrunner for the number one pick as of late, which is a bit funny considering he hasn't done much of anything in the pre-draft process yet. Still, Bradford is gaining steam as the Rams think more about how they have to make this number one selection really count. Over the past two years they've passed on Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez for linemen, which makes it less likely they'd pass on Bradford for Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy.
Bradford might have been the number one overall pick last year, so the pick would be justified in that respect as long as his shoulder checks out. Not only will selecting a quarterback give the fans a sense of hope, but it should also sell more <a href="http://www.stubhub.com/nfl-tickets/">NFL tickets</a> in St. Louis.
Detroit Lions – Ndamukong Suh, Defensive Tackle, Nebraska: The Lions have made some moves this offseason to upgrade their defensive line, but I don't think that necessarily means that they'll pass on Suh. It's true that the team needs an offensive tackle, but Suh provides much better value here than a guy like Russell Okung would. Suh projects as a dominant run-stuffer with above-average pass rush ability and should be able to come in and immediately make an impact in Detroit, something that the Lions can't afford to pass up.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Gerald McCoy, Defensive Tackle, Oklahoma: The Bucs would love it if either McCoy or Suh fell to them, as they definitely could use a dominant tackle to help shore up their defensive line. McCoy does not possess the upper body strength that Suh has, but he's better at penetrating the line and getting after the quarterback. He'd probably be the top defensive player off the board in most drafts, and some people think he should be this year despite the presence of Suh.
Washington Redskins – Jimmy Clausen, Quarterback, Notre Dame: ESPN's Mel Kiper has been touting this pick projection for a while now and I completely agree. I don't necessarily think it's a pick I'd make, but that doesn't matter; it's a pick that Daniel Snyder and Mike Shanahan would make. The biggest knocks on Clausen concern his maturity, attitude and leadership ability, but I think a guy like Shanahan will view his cockiness as confidence and a moxie similar to what attracted him to Jay Cutler in Denver - aside from the rocket arm, of course. Clausen seems to fit the mold for the personality of this franchise right now, and Shanahan is definitely eager to get his quarterback in place as soon as possible.
Kansas City Chiefs – Russell Okung, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma State: It would be extremely difficult to pass on Eric Berry here, but the team's need for protection is pretty dire. Matt Cassel had a decent season in 2009 despite spending a good deal of it on his back. The Chiefs have some budding offensive talents on their hands, but they're never going to truly get things going without a solid offensive line. Okung is the best offensive line prospect in this draft, as he doesn't possess the risk factor that a lot of the other tackles do. He might not be an absolute stud in the long run, but he'll play the position for a long time and should benefit from the mean streak he exhibits on the field.
Seattle Seahawks – Eric Berry, Safety, Tennessee: Pete Carroll would love to get a guy like Berry. If he thought having Taylor Mays was fun last year at USC, he's going to do back flips if Berry slips to six. Berry is one of the best safety prospects to come out in a while and should be an impact player from day one. He's a ball-hawk and has drawn comparisons to Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed.
Cleveland Browns – Joe Haden, Cornerback, Florida Gators: Haden's stock definitely took a hit at the combine, where he ran a pair of unimpressive 40 times, but I don't think he's going to slide out of the top 10 as a result, as some people are projecting. Haden simply wasn't taught how to run the 40 properly, evidenced by Deion Sanders' critique on the NFL Network's coverage of the combine. Haden's game speed appears to be fine and he should show that at his pro day in Gainesville. Mike Holmgren will see the combine stumble for what it was.
Oakland Raiders – Bruce Campbell, Offensive Tackle, Maryland: Campbell is a physical specimen, measuring 6'6" and weighing in at more than 310 pounds of solid muscle. He's one of the few guys of that size that people would describe as "ripped" or "shredded." He destroyed every drill at the combine, but that was expected. His production at Maryland was a different story, though, as his mechanics and footwork definitely need help. His incredible athleticism and size should be enough to convince Al Davis that he's worth a top 10 pick.
Buffalo Bills – Trent Williams, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma: The Bills might consider Clausen if he slips, but an offensive lineman should be the pick here either way. Buffalo has one of the worst offensive lines in the league and could use an anchor like Williams. He might have to begin his career at right tackle, but has the talent to eventually slide to the left side. The main thing is that he'd help right away, which makes him a smart option for the Bills.
Jacksonville Jaguars – Jason Pierre Paul, Defensive End, South Florida: The Jags signed Aaron Kampman via free agency, but that doesn't necessarily solve their pass rush issues. Kampman is coming off of a major injury and the team had almost no pass rush to speak of on the outside last season. Jacksonville could opt for Derrick Morgan, who is a more well-rounded prospect, but Pierre-Paul appears to be the best natural pass-rusher of the draft class. He's not a big name, mostly due to the school he attended, but scouts and executives are high on him.
