German Football Stadiums $21.19 Soccer in Germany - it means social places where local identity and social history crystallize. Modern stadiums are architectural masterpieces focused on research, logistics, statics, flexibility and emotion. Stadiums of this magnitude must be capable of admitting thousands of spectators within just a few minutes, they must ensure the safety of the giant structural surfaces in all kinds of weather, and, at the same time, they must provide visitors with the feeling of optimism, pride and a connection with the stadium. Last but not least, soccer stadiums are probably the last remaining places in which all social classes meet. Laborers, students, retirees, politicians, CEOs, entrepreneurs - all are united on the stadium stands. Including all 12 stadiums which are scene of the FIFA World Championship 2006, presented under the architectural focus. Plans and sketches are enclosed as well as an index of the designers and architects. |

NFL on Television $100.37 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The television rights to broadcast National Football League (NFL) games are the most lucrative and expensive rights of any American sport. It was television that brought Professional Football into prominence in the modern era of technology. Since then, NFL broadcasts have become among the mostwatched programs on American television, and the fortunes of entire networks have rested on owning NFL broadcasting rights. This has raised questions about the impartiality of the networks coverage of games. Currently, three American terrestrial television networks CBS (3.73B), NBC (3.6B) and Fox (4.27B), as well as cable televisions ESPN (8.8B) are paying a combined total of 20.4 billion to broadcast NFL games through the 2011 season for CBS, Fox, and NBC and through 2013 for ESPN. However, the league imposes several strict television policies to ensure that stadiums are filled and sold out, to maximize TV ratings, and to help leverage content on these networks. Leagueowned NFL Network, on cable television, broadcasts 8 games per season nationally. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Public Dollars, Private Stadiums: The Battle Over Building Sports Stadiums $28.94 Do sports stadiums really revitalize a community, bringing revenue, jobs, and status as a "major league" city? Since the mid-1980s, nearly ten billion dollars of public money have financed new playing fields, so they must be worth the investment, right? In Public Dollars, Private Stadiums, Kevin J. Delaney and Rick Eckstein suggest otherwise. The authors provide an eye-opening account of recent battles over publicly financed stadiums in some of America's largest cities. Their interviews with the key decision makers present a behind-the-scenes look at how and why powerful individuals and organizations foist these sports palaces on increasingly unreceptive communities. While greedy sport franchise owners usually take the rap, this book reveals that they aren't always the driving force behind construction. Instead, pressure to build often comes from an unexpected quarter-local growth coalitions. These non-sports corporations view the facilities as an important tool in attracting new executives, and are more than willing to have their recruiting bills paid by local taxpayers. Delaney and Eckstein show that in the face of studies demonstrating that new sports facilities don't live up to their promise of big money, proponents are using a new tactic to win public subsidies--intangible "social" rewards, such as prestige and community cohesion. The authors find these to be empty promises as well, demonstrating that new stadiums may exacerbate, rather than erase, social problems in cities. |
