JustJess on Wine and NFL Football
Have you ever watched JustJess , Hosted by Jess Altieri of WineHarvest? It’s a good program that talks about the impact of the wine industry in popular commerce and media. Most recently an episode on WineChannelTV referred to wine as the next bet in alcoholic beverages to mainstream with popular sporting events such as the NFL and NBA playoffs. Imagine having an “official wine” sponsor for your favorite NFL Team! It sounds a little bit far fetched but more and more consumers are switching to a good bottle of wine when enjoying an exhilarating game between popular NFL rivalries, especially during Super Bowl season.
I suppose this stems from the fact that Wine and Sports have many relatable characteristics. If you think about the NFL for example, each team has their own set of unique characteristics that they bring to each playoff, with their own line up strategy and individual stats that contribute to the loss or win of a game. Wine is the same, there is no same flavor or universal choice as each blend is made to emulate flavor, palette preference and body.
Let’s put it to the test. If you had to think about what kind of wine you would associate with your favorite NFL team, what do you think you would pick? My favorite is the Cleveland Browns and if I had to conceptualize an “official team wine” I’d have to say that my first pick is the Roubie Syrah. This unique blend is very similar to a good Croze wine, with a supple and spicy dark flavor that explodes in your mouth, a great all rounder. The Brows with their overall athleticism and full on approach would fit the Roubie Syrah profile perfectly.

Asian Rivalries $24.95 The most typical treatment of international relations is to conceive it as a battle between two antagonistic states volleying back and forth. In reality, interstate relations are often at least two-level games in which decision-makers operate not only in an international environment but also in a competitive domestic context. Given that interstate rivalries are responsible for a disproportionate share of discord in world politics, this book sets out to explain just how these two-level rivalries really work. By reference to specific cases, specialists on Asian rivalries examine three related questions: what is the mix of internal (domestic politics) and external (interstate politics) stimuli in the dynamics of their rivalries; in what types of circumstances do domestic politics become the predominant influence on rivalry dynamics; when domestic politics become predominant, is their effect more likely to lead to the escalation or de-escalation of rivalry hostility? By pulling together the threads laid out by each contributor, the editors create a 'grounded theory' for interstate rivalries that breaks new ground in international relations theory. |

Hypercompetitive Rivalries $3.95 In this pathbreaking book, Richard D'Aveni shows how competitive moves and countermoves escalate with such ferocity today that the traditional sources of competitive advantage can no longer be sustained. D'Aveni argues that a company must fundamentally shift its strategic focus. He constructs a compre-hensive model that shows how firms move up "escalation ladders" as advantage is continually created, eroded, destroyed, and recreated through strategic maneuvering in "four arenas" of competition. Using detailed examples from hypercompetitive industries such as computers, automobiles, and pharmaceuticals, D'Aveni demon-strates how hypercompetitive firms succeed by disrupting the status quo and creating a continuous series of temporary advantages. With its emphasis on real-world experiences of corporate warfare, this abridged paperback edition of D'Aveni's masterwork will be essential reading for scholars and managers alike - a perfect introduction to the battlefield of hypercompetitive rivalries. |

Handbook of International Rivalries $178.25 Several dramatic changes in international relations at the end of the 20th century seemed to suggest that rivalries (and the conflicts that often result) between states were receding. The Soviet-American Cold War ended, but the Indo-Pakistani feud refuses to go away. Argentina and Britain seem most unlikely to fight again over the Falklands, but North and South Korea persist in maintaining their hostile divided status. The question remains therefore—is conflict increasing or decreasing? To answer that question, it is important to first understand how the rivalry processes—and therefore the genesis of conflict—work.Handbook to International Rivalries examines the roughly 200 strategic rivalries—two states that view each other as threatening competitors to the point that they categorize their antagonists as enemies—that have been responsible for nearly 80 percent of the warfare of the past two hundred years. After a preface from J. David Singer, the founder of The Correlates of War Project, this reference delves into standardized narratives of the rivalries that include discussions of their origins, the levels of conflict achieved and the resolutions. Handbook to International Rivalries also includes a comprehensive bibliography and a chronological listing of rivalries by region, time and type. |
