2010 NFC West Odds: 49ers and Cardinals NFL Favorites
The San Francisco 49ers were the first choice at online sportsbooks in which looks to be one of the most competitive and even divisional races for the 2010 NFL season. San Francisco opened as a -185 choice at sportsbooks to win in 2010 NFC West predictions for the division with the Arizona Cardinals +175 and Seattle Seahawks next at +465 in NFL odds. Only the St. Louis Rams were written off as hopeless as +1850 NFL betting longshots. Even the Rams offer some intrigue for the 2010 season, however, as 2008 Heisman Trophy winner and 2010 number one overall draft pick Sam Bradford will take over at quarterback.
The Rams have nowhere to go but up in 2010 NFC West predictions after a 1-15 straight up mark in NFL odds for the 2009 season. As for the 49ers they were an even 8-8 straight up last year as head coach Mike Singletary has now put his print firmly on the program. Singletary was a legendary linebacker for the 1985 world champion Chicago Bears and his fiery style helped make the 49ers 4th in the NFL for scoring defense. Speaking of number one overall draft picks, San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith, the top choice of 2005, is finally developing into a solid pro.
The Arizona Cardinals have enjoyed their most successful era since they were the "Cardiac Cardinals" of St. Louis under Don Coryell in the 1970's. The Big Red has made back to back playoff appearances but the loss of retired quarterback Kurt Warner is why they are not the favorite in NFL odds. Matt Leinart will be charged to finally live up to billing as a number one pick in 2005. The Seahawks were a catastrophe last year under Jim Mora Jr as they went 5-11 straight up and fired him for Pete Carroll after just one season. Seattle looks overpriced as they have plenty of questions starting at quarterback and finished in the lower half of the NFL on both sides of the line last year.
