The 10 Entertaining Games for Kids on Sony PS3
Not all of us have kids, but many have been around them. Remember the time you had to babysit the neighbor's 8 year old so you'd earn enough cash to buy the next Twisted Metal or Final Fantasy? And if you haven't been around kids long enough to know how choosy they can be, simply take our words for it. When it comes to video games, kids know exactly what they want to play with you for the time you give them. So if you need a quick fix for a bored child, here's a list of PS3 games that just might do the trick. Games listed below are rated E-T.
1) Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Not really the most up-to-date game in this list but it never ever fails to deliver a punch. And besides, kids do not care about release dates so long as they enjoy it. Well, I share the same enthusiasm. Kids simply love the stunning graphics and a wide variety of cool weapons to pulverize Percival Tachyon and Captain Slag. But be warned, while this game is recommended for all ages, it can be more violent than your typical garden games.
2) Wall-E - Who does not know Wall-E? Not much, but this game is the perfect complement for the movie of the same title. The game itself received a "not-so-challenging" rating to date but it is still a great game for kids. Those who have watched the movie will find the game identical, especially the environment, with an added capability to manipulate Wall-E. Older kids may find it a little "too easy" though.
3) Pure - Kids who love challenges and at the same time genuine console fun will find this game a good babysitter. See those kids "driving" like crazy those consoles over their heads while their character jumps over a ledge? Breathtaking surroundings, a wide array of track options, high-speed action, and raw energy--these things are hard to resist for kids…even for me.
4) Mini Ninjas - The name may sound serious for kids but that is the only serious aspect of the game--the rest are all fun. Replete with sword wrangling, lighthearted amusement and high adrenaline action Mini Ninjas is one of the best games for kids there is. If you or your kid think Kung Fu Panda movie is cute, then this is your game.
5) Lego Indiana Jones 2 - The previous installment was too bland but surprisingly this one is superb. Kids will love it right away. This game is the latest of the series so far. The story imitates that of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie with several added twists. Most of the objects are interactive making it a huge source of fun for youngsters. "Toss those bananas and chairs with your whip Indy"! was all I could hear from kids all day. This game is a good one to pin down those super hyper kids.
6) Lego Star Wars - Meet the complete squad of Star Wars' heroes…including their corny humor. Interestingly, this game is not just an easy fave of kids, but is also a complete hit for the cynical me. It can make you laugh all day by simply watching the game with your kids. The best part of this game is the opportunity to act out almost all the scenes from the movies. Not bad for a corny game.
7) LittleBigPlanet - If there is a game that has put so much emphasis on creativity that is LittleBigPlanet. Easy playability, lighthearted fun, and surprising upgrades contribute to the success of this game. Kids can remain glued to the screen even until dinner time. Not exactly good news for parents wishing their kids would someday make it to the NFL. I have seen kids skip their lunch just to keep upgrading their character with those stickers, and funny customs (as if the game is not funny enough). Good for babysitters but definitely a no-no for parents, unless they play together with their kids.
ModNation Racers - There is no such thing as original games anymore, just hybrids, and this one has traces of LittleBigPlanet and Mario Kart. But then, no one cares. Kids love it all the same. Either crash or dash, this high-paced game entertains kids without letup. The players can select their weaponry and upgrade their characters just like the LittleBigPlanet. With considerable choices for tracks and karts, ModNation Racers is a healthy way for kids to unwind after a backyard game.
9) Critter Crunch - Puzzle games should not be designed for consoles…except for Critter Crunch. This one offers unrivaled amusement and a good brain exercise for kids. You start as a cute furry creature that snatches small bugs and feed them to bigger ones. There are proceeding explosions after the bigger bugs eat the smaller ones. The explosions produce jewels. The trick is to create bigger explosions by making sure multiple bugs of the same color are touching each other. This is a great game for puzzle-inclined kids.
10) Street Fighter IV - This installment of the popular Street Fighter series is highly recommended for kids looking for more action. It has a more cartoonish look compared to current games in its genre, which means lesser graphical representation of violence good enough for kids. This one is not the typical street fighter game you have. It is more focused on parrying, trading muscles for speed, and the characters look more muscular and heavy. It is a great departure from the conventional swift and lean styles of the previous games.

LEGO $24.95 An adult LEGO fan's dual quest: to build with bricks and build a family There are 62 LEGO bricks for every person in the world, and at age 30, Jonathan Bender realized that he didn't have a single one of them. While reconsidering his childhood dream of becoming a master model builder for The LEGO Group, he discovers the men and women who are skewing the averages with collections of hundreds of thousands of LEGO bricks. What is it about the ubiquitous, brightly colored toys that makes them so hard for everyone to put down? In search of answers and adventure, Jonathan Bender sets out to explore the quirky world of adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs) while becoming a builder himself. As he participates in challenges at fan conventions, searches for the largest private collection in the United States, and visits LEGO headquarters (where he was allowed into the top secret set vault), he finds his LEGO journey twinned with a second creative endeavor—to have a child. His two worlds intertwine as he awaits the outcome: Will he win a build competition or bring a new fan of LEGO into the world? Like every really good love story, this one has surprises—and a happy ending. Explores the world of adult fans of LEGO, from rediscovering the childhood joys of building with LEGO to evaluating LEGO's place in culture and art Takes an inside look at LEGO conventions, community taboos, and build challenges and goes behind-the-scenes at LEGO headquarters and LEGOLAND Tells a warm and personal story about the attempt to build with LEGO and build a family Whether you're an avid LEGO freak or a onetime fan who now shares LEGO bricks with your children, this book will appeal to the inner builder in you and reignite a love for all things LEGO. |
